Skin Tightening via Exilis Ultra
How Does It Work?
Exilis Ultra™ is a wholly non-invasive device that emits both ultrasound and radiofrequency energy. Both types of energy pass harmlessly through the topmost layers of the skin to reach the lower layers in the form of heat. The heat stimulates the body’s healing process and thus boosts the production of collagen, a protein that occurs naturally within the skin and gives it its structure and elasticity. The heat also increases the blood flow. As a result, the skin becomes tighter and more youthful-looking. The twin energies also melt the fat cells, which the body then absorbs.
What Can the Patient Expect?
The patient will probably not need any anesthetic beforehand; many patients have described the treatment as feeling like a hot stone massage. Our trained specialist will move the skin tightening handpiece in a circular pattern on the treatment site. Depending on the size of the treatment area, a typical session will take about 30 to 60 minutes.
The treated skin may be pink and warm for up to half an hour after the treatment, but this will quickly subside. Most patients need at least three treatments to get the desired results, with each one spaced one or two weeks apart.
In general, it takes about 90 days for the new collagen to form. If the patient follows healthy exercise and dietary habits, the results of the treatment could last a long time.
How Safe Is It?
Skin tightening with the Exilis Ultraâ„¢ is quite safe. It has a built-in Energy Flow Control system that controls the exact amount of energy being used during treatment. Similarly, it has a system that controls the exact depth of the area being treated. That control ensures that the right skin layers are treated and that the patient is kept comfortable.
The controls can also be customized depending on the part of the body being treated. For example, our provider may use stronger radiofrequency settings to treat the thighs rather than the face, since the thighs have thicker skin than the face does. Similarly, the fat cells are buried more deeply in the thighs than in the face. On the other hand, the face is more sensitive than the thighs are, so our specialist would use lower radiofrequency and higher cooling settings to ensure the patient stays comfortable. When you visit us for your consultation, we will explain the process to you in more detail.
